President's Message

I would like to begin by thanking each of my fellow board members for their continued support to the South Shore Child Guidance Center.  A huge debt of gratitude goes out to each of you for all that you have done to help us to reach our goals during the past year.

Most exciting of all was our “2008 Heroes from the Heart Gala“  held on
Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Coral House located in Baldwin New York.  This years Gala was chaired by our very own Board Vice President, Susan Malise. 

Funds raised through our Gala benefited the Center’s continuing efforts to provide treatment programs to children and families in Nassau County.  Susan’s contagious enthusiasm, coupled with her tenacity was paramount to the success of the event.  Special thank you to board member and Gala Vice Chair, Elizabeth Urena de Checo, whose warm smile and zeal was also instrumental to the success of the event. 

The Guidance Center was extremely proud to honor this years “Heroes from the Heart” Dr. Luis O. Herera, who has made a life-long commitment toward helping make every child and parent comfortable while in his care,  Dr. Flora Morente, who continues to set the standard as an outstanding mental health professional , and our very own local hero, Elaine Roman, whose dedication towards our center has set her as its heartbeat! 

Welcome to our newest board member Mitch Pearson.  Mitch brings to our board a wealth of ideas as well as his contagious charisma. Mitch served as a supercharged committee member for our 2008 Gala.

As you can see much is going on at the South Shore Child Guidance Center!  I assure you that our enthusiasm is contagious, so I urge you to get involved with our dynamic organization.  And remember, “ Every Day Is a Great Day to Help a Child.”
